Ultrasonic Flow Meter Manufacturer

As a premier Ultrasonic Flow Meter Manufacturer and Supplier in Ahmedabad, Aranka Instruments LLP offers clamp-on and inline ultrasonic meters that accurately measure fluid flow without intruding into the pipeline. Our ultrasonic flowmeters operate on the transit-time principle: they send ultrasonic pulses both upstream and downstream, then measure the difference in travel time between the two signals. This time difference is directly proportional to the fluid’s velocity, which—when combined with the pipe’s cross-sectional area—yields a precise volumetric flow measurement.

  • Transit Time Measurement:
Ultrasonic flow meter use two transducers that act as both transmitters and receivers of ultrasonic  signals.
  • No Flow Condition:
When there is no flow, the time it takes for the ultrasonic wave to travel from one transducer to the other is the same in both directions.
  • Flowing Condition:
When the fluid is flowing, the ultrasonic wave traveling downstream with the flow will travel faster than the wave traveling upstream against the flow. This difference in travel time is directly proportional to the fluid’s velocity.
  • Calculation:
By measuring these transit times (tAB and tBA), the flowmeter calculates the average fluid velocity (vm) using the formula: vm = k * (tBA – tAB), where k is a constant related to the meter’s design and the pipe’s dimensions.
  • Volume Flow Rate:
The calculated flow velocity, along with the cross-sectional area of the pipe, is then used to determine the volume flow rate.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is an Ultrasonic Flow Meter?

An ultrasonic flow meter measures the flow rate of liquids by using high-frequency sound waves to calculate the velocity of the fluid inside a pipe.

How does an Ultrasonic Flow Meter work?

It operates on the transit-time principle, where ultrasonic pulses are sent in both upstream and downstream directions. The time difference between these signals is used to calculate the fluid’s flow velocity.

What are the advantages of Ultrasonic Flow Meters?

They offer non-contact measurement, easy installation, no pressure loss, high accuracy, and suitability for a wide range of liquids — including clean and slightly dirty fluids.

What is a Clamp-On Ultrasonic Flow Meter?

A clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter measures flow from the outside of the pipe without any need for cutting or insertion. Sensors are simply clamped onto the pipe surface, making installation quick and non-intrusive.

Can Ultrasonic Flow Meters measure flow in any type of pipe?

Yes, they can measure flow through metal, plastic, or composite pipes as long as the material allows ultrasonic signal transmission.

Are Ultrasonic Flow Meters suitable for all fluids?

They are ideal for clean or slightly turbid liquids such as water, wastewater, chemicals, oils, and beverages, but not for highly aerated or slurry-type fluids.

How accurate is an Ultrasonic Flow Meter?

Typically, ultrasonic flow meters provide an accuracy of ±1% of reading, depending on pipe conditions, liquid type, and installation quality.

What maintenance does an Ultrasonic Flow Meter require?

Very minimal — mostly cleaning of transducer surfaces and ensuring proper coupling grease application for signal transmission.
